Information about who the Scouts are and what they do.

Scouting is for young people between 10½ and 14 and at Scouts young people begin to learn a lot more about skills and survival whilst enjoying more activities. From Scouts the next progression is Explorers when they become 14 for more skills and activities. Our Scout Troop meet together once a week where they enjoy all kinds of things.

If you want to join Scouts and take part in all the fun then you can find out how when you click here.

To do my duty to God and to the Queen,
To help other people,
And to keep the Scout Law.

: The Scout Law is :

A Scout is to be trusted.
A Scout is loyal.
A Scout is friendly and considerate.
A Scout belongs to the worldwide family of Scouts.
A Scout has courage in all difficulties.
A Scout makes good use of time and is careful of possessions and property.
A Scout has self-respect and respect for others.

: The Scout Motto is :

Be Prepared

The Scouts Badgework
The Scouts work towards eight challenges, seventy activity badges, three group awards and ultimately hope to gain the Chief Scouts Gold Award which is the highest award available to Scouts.

Examples of the badges that the Scouts can attempt include the Survival Skills, Emergency Aid, Information Technology, Hillwalker and Camper for more information about all of these , including the criteria please visit the links above.
In the gallery you can see some of the badgework that the Scouts have produced including photos of models posters and badgework when available.

To find out where these badges go on the uniform, click here.

Files and Resources
Sometimes there may be files, letters or badgework you would like to download, by clicking here you will be taken to the downloads section of the site where you can see all the files available for you to download. This may include programmes, letters and directions as well as other important resources.

Scouts Photographs
Photographs and images from some Scout activities are shown in the St Laurence Scout Group Gallery along with photos and things from other sections. We take the protection and safety of all our members very seriously and you can read more about this in our privacy area.

The Scout Uniform
The Scouts uniform is a smart green shirt and dark activity trousers with a green necker. The necker has a gridiron at the tip which points to the left when looking at the wearer from behind, the badges should be sewn on as indicated below.

Scout Troop Things
Our Scout Troop meets on a Tuesday night between 20:00 and 21:30.

Things we ask of all our uniformed members in all sections are that we all do our best, we should try to attend
church parade on the second Sunday of every month [except August] and attend as many fundraising functions as we can. As well as this subs
are paid on the first meeting every month and full uniform is worn unless otherwise advised.

We hope there will never be a problem at St. Laurence Scout Group however should you have any questions or queries do not hesitate to
contact us or get in touch with your section leader. Remember that if in doubt, ask!

The Scout Leaders
St Laurence Scout Group benefits from a large leadership team to help run all the sections and group events, you can find out more about the team here, as well as how to contact them. The Scout Leaders that work hard to keep St. Laurence Scouts running smoothly are Jackie, Simon, Kirsty, Bobbi and Kirsty.

Where to Now?

Eventually the time comes for a Scout to move on to Explorers to learn more skills and enjoy all the experiences and activities there. When moving they are presented with a badge called the Moving On Award provided they do certain things.

After a Scout is fourteen years old they can join ExplorersThere are several Explorer Units locally to us so you can choose which one best fits your locality or your free night. Explorers follow a similar structure to Scouts in terms of enjoying themselves, making friends and learning, but activities are more suited to their age range, badges require more skills and expeditions are more challenging, fun and rewarding. You can see what the Explorers have been up to recently by viewing their news section.
